Running a successful ERLC server is rarely a solo endeavor. As your server grows, you won't be able to be online 24/7. This is where the Co-Owner system (available via the Pro Server Pack) becomes invaluable. You can assign up to 5 Co-Owners who act as your highest-ranking staff members, helping you manage the server infrastructure and moderate the community.
Assigning a Co-Owner isn't a simple "all or nothing" toggle. The server settings allow for granular control over what a Co-Owner can and cannot do. This protects your server from rogue staff members.
Never hand out Co-Owner permissions to someone you just met. Co-Owners should be individuals who have been in your community for a long time, have served excellently as lower-tier moderators, and understand your vision for the server.
Even with trusted individuals, it is highly recommended to set up webhook logging. By linking your server to Discord webhooks, you can automatically log every command a Co-Owner uses. If a Co-Owner bans someone, you will immediately see a log of who was banned, the reason provided, and which Co-Owner executed the command. This creates accountability.
Staff members burn out, step down, or sometimes make grave errors in judgment. You must be prepared to revoke Co-Owner permissions swiftly. Have a clear protocol: if a Co-Owner is removed, immediately update the in-game settings, remove their Discord roles, and announce the staff change to the community to prevent confusion.
Co-Owners are the pillars of your server's administration. By carefully selecting individuals and meticulously configuring their permission boundaries, you can build a robust management team that keeps your server running smoothly even while you sleep.
